From AutoBlogGreen:
The Jetta SportWagen debuts in the U.S. at the New York International Auto Show this week, and the diesel version is coming to stateside dealerships in early 2008. The Jetta is VW’s best-selling model, and will be available with one of three engines: a 2.5-liter, five cylinder producing 170 (available in August) a 2.0T, four cylinder with 200 hp (after that) and the 2.0L clean diesel engine in 2008.

anything on whether it can use biodiesel? if so, what ratio?
Joe // September 4, 2007 at 3:46 pm
Biodiesel compatible? Availability in the midwest? Will VW take my order now?
Joelle // October 6, 2007 at 12:26 pm
Probably B20 without endangering the warranty. The main reason manufacturers limit biodiesel percentage is fear of the home-made stuff. One of the goals of the BlueTec/Motion common rail diesel development program was to improve biodiesel compatibility, since biodiesel use is expanding rapidly in Europe. Mercedes recently completed a three year test of B100 from Jatropha oil in its stock diesel cars. They were driven through the deserts and jungles of India in midsummer, and over the Himalayas in winter without problem. Jatropha oil is very lean and resistant to jelling, with excellent combustion characteristics. Like Canola, it can be used in stock diesel engines as SVO.

This new TDI is gold, any vehicle that gets less then 40MPG should be crushed for scrap metal. I have an 05 TDI wagon and love it, but I will be replacing it with the new sport wagon as soon as it is available

Has anyone else heard the rumor that the Jetta Sportwagon TDI will not be released in the US until at least October, 2008?
I want one NOW!!

I was the second person in Indianapolis, IN to put a deposit on the 08 TDI sportwagon. VW is taking orders and have been told that May should be safe from the dealer. Who Knows…? Previous models are bragged about by owners of hitting the mid 50’s on MPG.

I talked with my VW rep today about availability. He said that they have been put off until a little later than expected. They are not taking orders/deposits yet but are hoping to by the end of January. They don’t believe VW will allow any special orders in the beginning. It will probably be first name on the list gets the opportunity on the first one, however it is equipped and whatever color it is.VW has said the mileage is mid 40’s in city and mid 50’s highway for the Jetta TDI Sportwagon but won’t release official numbers until the official debut in the US. (Probably in July). Also my sales rep said that VW intends to have the MSRP’s for the new TDI’s lower than those listed for the 2006 TDI models. I think that’s awesome news. I quess they really want to push the economy angle and try to bite into the ultra mileage group of the Prius. Long live the oil burners!!!!

By the way they will be 2009 models. 140 horsepower and 230-ish foot pounds on torque.

I can’t wait to get my hands on this car. It will be hard to part with my 98 jetta but i’m keeping it around atleast…. this is the car I dream of… oh sweet VW.

Hey Jeremy, I was the 1st to put a deposit on the 08 TDI Sportwagon.
I’d also been told May at the earliest with the possibility of August/Sept should VW not be able to resolve some issues quick enough. Has anyone heard whether VW is still wrestling with the early performance problems that forced them to revamp their rollout schedule?

Dealer told me no down payments till they get prices. There is however a list of names that I am on #12. Sounds like it will be a while. Can’t wait…

Wagon will be released this summer out of every 100 Jettas there will be 22 Diesel out of those 22 Diesels 11 will be the Jetta Sedan and the other 11 will be wagons. The Diesel engine is going to be priced about $1500 - $2500 more then a comparable equipped Jetta. The wagon feature is going to be another $1500 - $2500 more then a comparable Jetta so for a Diesel wagon you are looking at a range of $3000 - $5000 more then a regular gas engine Jetta.
Now about warranty information. The new BlueTec Engine will run on B100 but in the US you will void your warranty if you use anything more then B20, and if you have problems because you run on a fuel more then B20 the dealer will ask you of a purchase date and receipt from where you bought the BioDiesel, they may even ask for you to get a sample for them. Some dealers will do that for you though. After they test the fuel and see that the sample matches the fuel in the tank they will then start work on the car. If it is determined that you have run more then B20 you will have to pay for repairs which can go well above 3k. If it is determined that you have run only B20 or lower (from a reputable dealer) your warranty will still be in effect and the repairs will be covered. Also on a side note the 09 VW line up including Diesel engines will include a 3 year 36k mile all inclusive bumper to bumper warranty that will include all fees associated in that first 36k miles.
Now about special ordering and pre-ordering. At first you will not be able to special order a vehicle, to arrive at the same time as the new ones coming in. If you do order one you are looking at 16-64 weeks depending on the demand. Putting deposits down in advance is up to the particular dealer, the dealer that I work for has already taken 2 deposits from people that want to be the first to get a car when we get it in. Some dealers are waiting until actual numbers come out and other are waiting until the car comes to the dealer to start a buying frenzy where people are offering well over the MSRP so that they get the car. Another note about availability in the first proposed shipment there are only enough Jettas that if VW were to divide the Diesels equally between dealerships that each dealership would get 2.3 cars at first. I know at my dealership we are not holding cars based on the list of 50+ people but who ever brings the money first is driving home in a new car.

End of May - Beginning of June is when Dealers are going to get Demos and most dealerships will take deposits at this time if they are not already. Then the TDIs will be coming in between July - September depending on the actual release date and where the dealer is in the line to get one

i have never put a deposit on a car to be on a waiting list before, and i am #5 on my local dealer list for a tdi wagon. can someone answer this for me. when i become #1 on the list and my car comes in, and i was to take a pass on this car because of options would they then call #2 on the list and keep me as #1 for the next or if you pass your out? i am really looking forward to this car. will be my first vw and first diesel.

Stopped at my dealer in Fayetteville NC.
They will be getting one demo in this month.
They said the purpose is to use it only as a demo.
And, each dealer is assigned a set of colleges where they are to to demos.
They will be taking orders for June.

At my dealership we have a list of people but we have 2 people that have put money down to get the first 2 cars that we get in. The rest of the people are on a separate list that when we get the third one in and so on that we will call them all to tell them that we have them in, then it is the first to show my sales manager the money is going to get the car. Now about being first on the list and passing up your turn is going to be to each particular dealer. VW does not have any set rules on the order in which people get cars
tom // April 9, 2008 at 3:27 pm
This is ridiculous. We bought a TDI wagon in 2004 and it was nearly the same situation then. VW really needs to get its quality control and supply acts together.
