VW Jetta TDI gets a Stimulus Check

A federal credit previously provided for the purchase of hybrids now applies to one of the nation’s best selling diesel passenger cars.

Buyers of the new VW Jetta TDI, due out this fall, are now eligible for $1,300 federal tax credit. The Internal Revenue Service recently announced that the Jetta TDI qualifies for the Advanced Lean Burn Technology Motor Vehicle income tax credit. This brings the cost of new Jetta TDI within $700 of a conventional gas Jetta. With the added benefit of the diesel engine’s better mileage, the Jetta TDI makes for a money-saving choice.

    That is great news, except for one thing: I have been trying to get information about how to buy one of the TDI’s for a year. The local VW dealer evidently pre-sold some, but I didn’t find out about that possibility until after the fact. I’m ready to trade for one, but don’t know where to get it.
